Tower Rock Vineyard & Winery is situated about 2 miles east of Altenburg, Missouri. And about 2 miles further east is the Mississippi River.

Altenburg’s quiet ambiance is central to its appeal. With a population of about 300 people, the city has the amenities to keep things going – with some exception, there is one of everything – one bank, one delicatessen, one tavern, one grocery store, one public school, one parochial school, one gas station, one post office, one library, one early childhood center. Beyond that, there are a few other businesses as well as two
churches, three hair salons and several lumber mills.

Lutheran Heritage Center & Museum: Altenburg and much of East Perry County were settled by German Lutherans, and in 2005 The Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum complex was constructed in Altenburg. The Museum interprets the 1838-39 immigration of 700 Lutherans from Germany to America and the history of the seven original colonies that were established. The museum includes a state-of-the-art exhibit hall and reception area, integrated with the original 1845 church building, commonly known as the "Big School." The museum includes the original 1839 log cabin that was the birthplace of Concordia Seminary and the cabin of an original settler Christiane Loeber. www.altenburgmuseum.org.

Saxon Lutheran Memorial: The nearby town of Frohna is home to an outdoor history museum – the Saxon Lutheran Memorial, a log cabin village situated on the homestead and farm of pioneer Thomas Twyman and later brothers Wilhelm and Christian Bergt, whose family lived on the property from one generation to the next for 118 years.  www.saxonlutheranmemorial.com.

The Mississippi River Trail: The MRT is a world-class bicycling route that includes several miles on Missouri Route 61, about 12 miles from the vineyard. It travels from the headwaters of the Mississippi River at Lake Itasca, Minnesota, to the Delta at the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana. It is a 3,000-mile system of bicycle-friendly roads and multi-use pathways. The MRT is a “string of pearls” that connects 10 states, the cities of Minneapolis, St. Louis, Memphis and New Orleans, and hundreds of smaller towns along the way. The MRT is a unique way to experience the Mississippi River’s natural wonders, transportation system, recreational facilities and cultural heritage. www.mississippirivertrail.org

Eggers & Company General Store Bed & Breakfast: A stay at Eggers and Company General Store B & B is reminiscent of visiting grandparents in the country.  The General Store with house attached is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and has been lovingly restored by owners Ellen and Steve Frye.  Ellen’s grandfather, Martin ”Tom” Eggers and his brother Walt were the store owners from 1920 through 1966. The home retains its historic character, but has been outfitted with modern conveniences, including a full bath in each of the guestrooms. www.eggersandcompany.com.
